THINGS PEOPLE FORGET

Why recurring subscriptions feel invisible

You do not forget because you are careless. You forget because the system is designed to be quiet.

Quiet is the feature

A good subscription product, from the company's point of view, is one you stop seeing. Auto-renew. Saved card. A receipt you archive. The charge is small enough, or familiar enough, that it stops being a decision.

FYCC uses the same rails and then does the opposite socially: it publishes a Lifetime total for anyone who opts in. The charge can still be quiet. The rank is not.

The month is a fog

Monthly is a magic interval. Small enough to approve once. Long enough to drift. Annual is a fight. Weekly is a nibble. Monthly is the default because it sits in the blind spot.

That is not a personal failure and it is not a reason to subscribe here. It is why a leaderboard of monthly forgetting even parses as a sentence.
