The background radiation
Streaming, software, storage, newsletters, cloud folders, 'free' trials that were never free. Recurring payments are the default commercial relationship of this decade. Most of them try not to be noticed.
Forget Your Credit Card notices on purpose. The monthly amount is the whole interface. There are no plan names. There is an amount, a board, and a stop control.
Making the invisible public
A normal subscription lives in an email receipt and a bank line. A public Forgetter lives on /leaderboard. Same billing rails. Different social object.
That does not make FYCC a critique with a TED Talk. It makes it a site that took the most boring financial primitive on the internet and refused to dress it as productivity.
Still a subscription
Culture does not cancel consumer rules. Stripe still charges. STOP FORGETTING still ends billing at period end. Delete still stops eligible billing immediately. The absurdity is the framing, not the fine print.
